This Pacer looks like a pumpkin. I've owned a bunch of Pacers and my favorite one was half orange like the one pictured below. It was an incredible car; 4-speed, low miles, indian blanket interior. I sold it because someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse at the time and I sure wish I had it back. Like a lot of the cars I've sold. But, I can't afford to have a huge car collection, so I figure I can own all my dream cars one at a time. Pacers are highly underrated. They're certainly not quick, but they had a lovely rack and pinion that worked great when it wasn't leaking. Pacers were the first American car to offer standard rack and pinion steering, actually. And that wide stance made for some decent handling. It wasn't a sports car by any means, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fun, especially with the manual tranny. And that straight six was bullet proof. So, when someone says the Pacer was one of the worst cars ever made, tell them they don't know what they're talking about.

And they're not ugly as the Porsche 928's designer can confirm. I always got lots of compliments. Many people would tell me they thought they were hideous when it came out, but looking at it now, they realized it was quite pretty. A little chubby maybe, but hey, it's American. It may have helped sink AMC, and it may have been better had GM actually built that rotary, but it's become an icon. The signature car of the 1970's and Dick Teague's masterpiece.
